Protect Your Vacation
Travel Insurance
Vacations To Remember strongly encourages the purchase of travel insurance.
Your vacation package is 100% non-refundable once booked, so we want to make sure you are protected! To purchase travel insurance for your upcoming vacation, you may request a quote here. Please note that unless you add the “cancel for any reason” benefit, you do need to understand that most covered reasons for cancellations are medical emergencies.
If you have specific questions about insurance coverages relating to a Travel Insured policy, please call 1.800.243.3174.
Any good travel advisor will always recommend the purchase of travel insurance for all vacations they plan but not all travel insurance policies are created equal. Some offer the option to add “cancel for any reason” coverage and this is the best kind possible! It allows you to cancel for any reason — or no reason at all — and get a partial refund of what you paid. This is not always an option with all policies, but If this is available with your vacation you should absolutely buy it! However, even if it is not an option, always consider adding trip protection and be sure to request more information when purchasing. Most travel advisors can offer it but can not speak to exact coverage (as that is the job of the insurance agent), however we can always advise you of your options and connect you with the right people to answer questions. Below are the top 5 reasons we believe you would benefit from adding travel insurance to your vacation other than just having the option to cancel in case of an emergency:
1. You get sick or injured on your trip
You and your friends have planned a hiking trip to climb Machu Picchu since college. After your first night in Lima, you wake with severe stomach pains and a high fever. You cannot start your hike. Instead, you need emergency medical care – and quick. With travel medical coverage, you won’t be paying a huge medical bill. You’ll also have assistance services – in your own language – to locate a suitable medical facility and arrange transportation.
2. You need an emergency medical evacuation
You and your daughter have planned a summer tour of Mont-Blanc, but high in the mountains your daughter is overcome with dizziness and a dangerously high fever. She needs immediate medical attention. How will you get her to safety? With medical evacuation coverage, you can arrange safe transportation to a medical facility. Medical evacuations typically cost tens of thousands of dollars, but with trip insurance you won’t break the bank to save your daughter.
3. You need emergency assistance services
You and your parents have planned a trip to their home country, but on your way, the train is canceled for mechanical repairs. You don’t speak the language. Who can help you locate alternative transportation? With trip insurance you’ll have emergency assistance services. The service agents will recover your non refundable fees, then locate and pay for transportation to get you where you want to be.
4. Your baggage is delayed or lost
Your special day has finally arrived – a destination wedding at a beach side resort. Unfortunately, the airline made a mistake and your baggage will be delayed. Luckily you’ve got the dress and the rings, but what about your other clothes, shoes, toothpaste, and personal items? With coverage for delayed bags, you can relax. The service hot-line will help you recover your bags. You’ll also be reimbursed for the essential items you need to start enjoying your trip. Or, you are required to speak at a business conference in Las Vegas, but somewhere in transit, your baggage is lost. Your presentation is tomorrow, how will you get ready in time? With coverage for luggage that is lost, stolen or damaged, you’ll be reimbursed for new clothes and personal items. You’ll can even get reimbursed for a suitcase so you can take your new stuff home.
5. Weather damages your destination
You saved all year for a summer vacation to Aruba, but a hurricane destroys the hotel a week before you depart. Will you lose all the money you worked so hard to save? With travel insurance protection for weather damage, you’ll likely be able to recover your pre-paid costs. Travel assistance services will also help you arrange a vacation at a new location – one the hurricane missed.
Of course not ALL policies include ALL of these coverages but many do and these things do happen! As we learned during the COVID-19 crisis of 2020, most travel insurance will not cover cancelation due to a pandemic or fear of traveling but when there are so many other unknowns in our future, it is always a good idea to protect yourself when traveling. What we all need to remember when booking a vacation is that things happen. We always think we will go on that trip no matter what but so many factors are out of our control. If bad weather cancels your flight, your hotel or cruise line will not refund your money just because you could not get there. If a hotel closure or cruise cancellation occurs even when it is no fault of your own, the airline will not refund your money just because you have nowhere to stay. We all want to be made whole in unforeseen circumstances but there are so many restrictions with airlines, hotels and cruise lines that without travel insurance, you won’t be compensated even if you think you should be. Protect yourself, your hard earned money and your well deserved vacation with the purchase of travel insurance. Even if you do not purchase from your travel advisor, do your own research.
